Breathe the Breath of the Heart

To remove the veil of ego is not easy. All of Samsara and its fantasies beckon us to remain complacent and to settle for far less. It requires fortitude and a kind of fierceness which is willing to surrender again and again to the will of the heart, to cut through the slothfull meandering mind and make it through the mire of conditioned thought. Ultimately, an intense degree of vigilance, a willingness to stay open and present with what is, is necessary to regain our sanity. No less than a fierce sort of innocence is needed to cut through the bewilderment of an ego identified with what isn't really so.

We are living at one of the most opportune moments in time to wake up fully to the richness of our real inheritance. Six and a half billion people have been attracted to be alive on our planet at this time. On some level, all of us sense the opportunity that is at hand, as we transit one of the most important points in the earth's history. A great play of opposing forces is apparent as an old way is coming to an end and the new is still forming. Times of transition are difficult, as people tend to cling to the old and familiar while simultaneously, the energy of the new way pulls them in a different direction.

In the Hindu tradition, Sri Yukteswar, the guru of Yogananda, explored our current time. He once stated that he had two important tasks to complete in his life: one was to train Yogananda, who's destiny it was to introduce Yoga to the west back in the 1930's; the other was to write the book Holy Science, a description of a 108,000 year astronomical cycle which is now coming to an end. I read this book over twenty years ago and recall my surprise when later I came across Jose Arguellas book The Mayan Factor a couple of years later with a similar 106,000 year cycle.

What the end of this cycle on December 12th 2012 portends astronomically, is that our solar system will reach the outermost point of an orbit that is carrying us to the most distant point from the core of our galaxy. The Mayans pinpointed a very unusual lineup of the planets on this same day as the center point of a major historical transition that is due just before and after this date. Historically it is known that during earlier cycles of time with a similar planetary line-up major changes occurred.

Today we have an unprecedented opportunity for each one of us to contribute to the birthing of a new earth, replete with all of the challenges that birth entails. We are presently being called upon to choose the path of heart, as we move toward an inevitable shift into a new dimension of love on the planet. This will involve facing our hope and doubt and moving beyond to a new way of experiencing—no longer on 'ego – automatic', instead—spacious, selfless and ungraspingly cognizant.
